Legacies
Why should I make a will?
In the absence of kindred (within the sixth degree) and a will, your assets will pass to the State. As Vétérinaires Sans Frontières benefits from reduced inheritance taxes, you can be certain that the principal source of your legacy will go towards a good cause.
Can I leave a bequest such as property, works of art, objects, life assurance payments, etc.?
Unless you have stated otherwise, assets shall be resold in aid of Vétérinaires Sans Frontières. The capital from your life assurance shall be paid to Vétérinaires Sans Frontières and shall be used for cooperation and development projects.
How can I be certain that my legacy will be allocated to Vétérinaires Sans Frontières’ projects?
We provide complete transparency. Our accounts are published on our website and copies can be sent on request. Our accounts are checked by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Development Cooperation and also by an independent auditor.
How do I draft my will?
This can be done in two ways – by an holographic will or an authentic will. The holographic will must be entirely handwritten (by your own hand) and you must sign and date it. It may be registered with a notary public. The authentic will must be dictated by you to a notary public. The notary public then registers and retains the will.
